TRAVIS SCOTT - UTOPIA CIRCUS MAXIMUS TOUR 2024
Travis Scott delivered a stellar account of his UTOPIA – Circus Maximus Tour in what was his largest UK headline show to date at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A huge name of the US rap scene, the Houston-born rhymer – who pledged £1 from every ticket sold went to his Cactus Jack Foundation, a 501(c)3 with a mission to uplift youth prospects in his home city - transformed our iconic multi-event space into a vast spectacle through an immersive set design, visual effects and a thundering bassline.
His entrance, accompanied by fireworks and flames, brought the energy from the onset with ‘HYAENA’ – the first track of his critically acclaimed UTOPIA album – kicking off an exhilarating setlist whilst Scott dictated the audience atop an impressive volcanic rock style stage as the crowd erupted in unison.
The rapper bound across the rocky boulders in front of a huge digital screen display accompanied by four more on-pitch tower screens as well as dynamic pyrotechnics and surreal visuals that complemented his psychedelic soundscapes in perfect harmony.
The curtain raiser set the tone as the energy and intensity only ramped up as he reeled off tracks from his record-breaking No.1 album - including collaborations with the biggest names in the industry such as Drake (‘MELTDOWN’) and Beyonce (‘DELRESTO (ECHOES)’) - with top-shelf hits from previous years such as ‘BUTTERFLY EFFECT’, ‘HIGHEST IN THE ROOM’ and ‘Antidote’.
Guest appearances on stage starred American rapper Ice Spice and a superb double act from London-born Central Cee and US hip-hop artist Lil Baby who performed their 2024 hit ‘BAND4BAND’ as Scott made them reload and go again.
Famous faces partying in the Stadium included Spurs trio Dejan Kulusevski, Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma, British rapper and Spurs fan AJ Tracey, NBA star James Harden and Nigerian singer Asake – all present to amongst a packed N17.
As Scott’s pulsating performance ramped up towards the close, he afforded not one, not two but five drops of the immensely popular ‘FE!N’ as the crowd went stratospheric before dropping certified crowd pleasers ‘SICKO MODE’ and ‘goosebumps’ with ‘TELEKINESES’ concluding what was a masterclass in modern hip-hop artistry.
For those in attendance, it was a night to remember – an astronomical eruption of sound, light and energy that encapsulated the very essence of Scott’s world-renowned status as the Stadium played host to yet another unmissable show.
